For over 10 years, I have been associated with Andy Morell at Cobra, and want to thank him personally for his ongoing support.
Cobra MAA (Cobra Martial Arts Association), is a prominent and well-regarded national supporting body for various martial arts styles across the UK and Europe. Established in 2002, the organisation prides itself on promoting national standards, ensuring quality instruction, and providing comprehensive support to its member clubs and instructors. They are known for their focus on good practice, health & safety, and safeguarding within martial arts, being members of bodies like the Martial Arts Standards Agency and the Sport and Recreation Alliance, and acting as a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Umbrella Body. Cobra MAA aims to bring all styles together in a fair, equal, and open-minded manner, recognising both traditional, freestyle, and mixed martial arts.
Central to Cobra MAA’s operations and its widespread positive reputation is Andrew “Andy” Morrell. As a genuine martial artist with a deep and varied background, Andy Morrell is a highly respected figure in the martial arts community. His own extensive experience includes holding high-ranking black belts such as 8th Dan in Cobra FMA and Freestyle Karate/Kickboxing, and a 6th Dan in Ju-Jitsu, among other martial arts experiences like Muay Thai. Beyond his personal grading, Andy has served as an England Team Manager for the World Karate & Kickboxing Association (WKA) for several years, and has been involved in developing instructor training programmes to ensure safety and efficiency across different styles.
Andy Morrell is widely praised in testimonials for his exceptional support, guidance, and responsiveness to clubs and instructors. He is a dedicated, genuine gentleman who goes above and beyond to help members with advice on club management, procedures, and even navigating challenges like insurance policies. His commitment to bringing different martial arts styles together under one supportive umbrella, without interfering in the lawful management of individual clubs, is a defining characteristic of Cobra MAA’s philosophy, largely driven by Andy’s leadership.
